ALAN MCINALLY

The ex-Scotland international and Sky Sports football pundit rarely leaves the UK without his golf clubs in tow

My first ever holiday was… a family trip to Majorca when I was about 13 or 14 years old. My first as an adult was when I played at Celtic FC, and we all went to Vancouver in Canada.

My most recent holiday was to…San Lorenzo in Portugal, where we played the Old Course at Vilamoura.

My favourite golf course is…the new-look Ailsa course at Turnberry. I was brought up on the west coast of Scotland, and love all the courses around there. I have a huge soft spot for Loch Lomond, but I recently played the new Turnberry, following the changes. It is absolutely sensational.

My ideal holiday fourball would include… Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. They each brought something unique and special to the game. They might need to give me a few shots, though!

My best ever round was… a three-under-par 69 at Vale Royal Abbey in Cheshire, where I am a member.

My favourite golf destination is… Florida. The weather is great – most of the time – and there are hundreds of great courses to play, and superb hotels and restaurants. I particularly like playing around Naples and Clearwater – the courses are groovy.

I always travel with… my flip-flops and plenty of golf balls! I always try and fly British Airways.

The best hotel I’ve ever stayed at was… either the Fitzpatrick in New York or Sandy Lane in Barbados. They are both stunning hotels. I’ve been lucky enough to stay in both, as well as too many others to mention or remember.

My favourite city in the world is … New York. My girlfriend is from Calgary in Canada, so I will have to say that too!

My most memorable holiday meal was at… the Golden Dragon in Vilamoura. It might seem odd to pick a Chinese restaurant in Portugal, but the food was great and so was the company, and it occupies a beautiful spot overlooking the marina.

My worst holiday experience was…in Turkey. Pretty much everything was a disappointment, so I’m not sure I’ll be hurrying back.

The golf courses on my bucket list are… Augusta, Pebble Beach and Oakland Hills.

I‘m planning a golf trip to… Florida with Tour pro Gary Boyd early next year.

My top travel tip is… don’t forget your passport!
