The first clubs outside England were opened in Bombay, India in 1842, in Currach, Ireland in 1856, in Pau, France in 1856, in Adelaide, Australia in 1870, in Montreal, Canada in 1873, in Cape Town, South Africa in 1885, in New York, the USA in 1888, in Hong Kong, PRC in 1889.

Nowadays, golf is distributed everywhere. At the end of 2016, there were 33,161 golf courses in 208 countries around the world. This represents 85% of the distribution of this sport around the world. Most of the world’s objects are located in the west. The Americas are home to 55% of golf courses, of which the US alone accounts for 45% of the world’s total. The game has traditionally remained correlated with private societies, where activity is typically restricted to members, golf is spread everywhere, even at places without membership.
