Which Under Armour golf shoes are best for your game?
Under Armour’s golf shoe range for 2020 is its biggest yet, and features models to suit all players in all ground conditions.
Headlined by the Spieth 4 shoe, which was designed for brand ambassador Jordan Speith, Under Armour has expanded HOVR range to include four models for men and two for women. Let’s break them down so you can see which would be the right shoe for your game and where you can buy them.
Under Armour Spieth 4
The fourth generation of UA’s tour level shoe is unquestionably its best yet. Worn on tour by brand ambassador Jordan Spieth, who plays a significant roll in testing prototypes and approving the finished product, the latest model also received input from the head of biomechanics and sports performance at the European Tour institute, JJ Rivet.
A lot of this traction comes from the lower profile RST 2.0 spikes. This technology will help golfers to keep their feet planted throughout the swing and eliminate any loss of power and control caused by losing contact with the ground. Despite being so low to the ground, the lightweight design and dual durometer EVA footbed ensure that, underfoot, these are extremely comfortable to wear.
Unlike previous Spieth models, a Gore-Tex membrane has been added to the uppers, meaning these shoes will be up to the test in any conditions. The shoes have an integrated lacing system to lock your foot in place and boast an E sizing which is targeted for golfers with a wider foot profile. RRP: £149.99
Under Armour Hovr Drive GTX
The HOVR Drive GTX features HOVR sole technology for maximum comfort and energy return, while the upper is made from a breathable, Clarino microfiber and a Gore-Tex waterproof membrane, which helps keep you dry all year round. The shoe also features Rotational Resistance Traction 2.0, which prevents the rotation of the foot during the swing. If you want a load of tech in spikeless form then these are for you. RRP: £129
Under Armour Hovr Show SL GTX
Is it a traditional golf shoe? Is it a trainer? Weighing just 313g, the Hovr Show SL GTX is an extremely stylish spikeless shoe that can be worn on and off the course; it is constructed with premium Gore-Tex material for the ultimate in waterproof protection, while the breathable Clarino microfibre upper is lightweight, waterproof and comfortable, keeping you cool and dry. The advanced HOVR placement supports the natural mechanics of the foot, actively feeding back the energy you put in; this helps to activate power through the golf swing. A compression mesh energy web moulds the foam construct to fit snugly on the foot, in conjunction with a rotational resistance outsole helping to lock the foot down on the horizontal plane. These materials make for a lighter, flexible shoe that maximises comfort and performance. RRP: £119
Under Armour Hovr Matchplay
Arguably the best looking spiked model in the Under Armour range, the sole on the Matchply features a compression mesh energy web with integrated foam for a zero gravity feel and maximum comfort. Comfortable straight out of the box and solid performance on the golf course. RRP: £99
Under Armour Hovr Fade SL
Designed for all-day comfort and style, the Fade SL weights just 258g, so they won’t weigh you down. The spikeless outsole gives a lighter more flexible feel. RRP: £79.95
Under Armour Women’s Hovr Drive
Engineered fit to support a women’s foot structure, the Hovr Drive features Hovr foam for comfort and energy return, as well as rotational resistance grips to harness power. A traditional style golf shoe in terms of shaping and with the spiked outsole, the splashes of colour and variety of materials and textures really add to the visual appeal of this shoe. RRP: £119.99
Under Armour Women’s Hovr Fade SL
The small additional details such as the stitching and the orange colour pops on the heel and laces are a great touch. The knit tongue construction provides enhanced fit and breathability which adds to the overall comfort of this shoe. An integrated lacing system makes the shoe fit much more securely, especially around the ankle, while the wider sole gives you a great solid base for generating power. RRP: £84.99
