BUSHNELL TOUR V5 SHIFT
£359, bushnellgolfglobal.com
Offering the same technology as the V5 Tour, the Shift model allows you to factor slope into your yardages for ‘plays like’ distances, although that can be turned off for tournament play.
BUSHNELL PRO XE
£449, bushnellgolfglobal.com
Offering x7 magnification and capable of measuring up to 500 yards, the Pro XE boasts ‘Slope with Elements’, a unique technology that factors in temperature and altitude to go with slope technology to give golfers the most precise distances ever. The Pro XE provides compensated ‘Play As’ distance that takes actual ball flight into account and also features PinSeeker with Visual Jolt Technology, which sees a red ring flash on the viewfinder as the handset vibrates to give the golfer even greater feedback and confidence to know they have locked onto the flag.
GOLFBUDDY LASER LITE

Aimed at golfers looking for a more affordable distance measuring option, while still boasting impressive functionality, the Laser Lite measures distances of up to 800 yards at x6 magnification. Distances, which can be measured in yards or metres, are displayed in the viewfinder within 0.5 seconds. The unit is waterproof and it comes with a carry case which can be clipped onto a golf bag.
GARMIN APPROACH Z82
£579, garmin.com
The Z82 combines GPS and rangefinder technology to provide a more detailed overview of distances and targets. Preloaded with 41,000 courses, when you look through the eyepiece you will see a real-time image of whatever you are pointing the lens at and a 2D rendered map of the course. The flag finder feature automatically locks onto the pin, while a laser range arc is drawn on the green so that you can see if the pin is in the front, middle or back. The arc can also be used to see what else is in play when ranging other targets on the course. The ‘Plays Like’ feature accounts for slopes and even real-time wind direction, while a handy ‘Pin Pointer’ feature gives you yardages to the middle of the green on blind shots.
