TREVOSE TO HOST NEW SENIOR TOUR EVENT

Trevose Golf and Country Club is to host top-flight professional golf next season, when it stages a new tournament on the Staysure Tour.

The popular North Cornwall club has been chosen to host the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship, a brand new tour event on the senior tour schedule, that will take place from June 20-23, 2019.

Trevose has hosted a number of prestigious national amateur events over the years, including the Brabazon and the McGregor trophies, but this will mark the first time the south west venue has staged an event on the over-50s professional circuit.

The tournament, which will have a prize fund of £200,000, will get underway with a Pro-Am on June 20, where teams of one professional and three amateurs will compete over the club’s Championship Course in a bid for team success. Day two will see the Alliance format of the week commence. Each Staysure Tour pro will link up with one amateur over the course of two days. The final day’s play will see the amateurs step aside, as the professionals go head-to-head in a bid to win the championship title and a first prize of €50,000.

Trevose’s managing director Nick Gammon said: “Everyone here at Trevose is looking forward to hosting our first Staysure Tour event next year. We believe we have one of the finest links courses in the country, in one of the UK’s most idyllic locations. It will be a fantastic occasion for us, and Cornwall as a whole, to welcome so many legends of the game for a wonderful festival of golf.”

The tournament is being organised by Champions (UK) plc, which already looks after the Farmfoods European Senior Masters and the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship. Champions managing director Matthew Hayes said: “We are delighted to add the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship to the list of events we organise. Trevose enjoys a unique and wonderful location, and with the golf playing out against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, the championship promises to be extra special. This event also allows amateurs the chance to play alongside some of the greats of the game.”
