Stenson to play on home soil

Major Champion and home favourite Henrik Stenson has confirmed he will tee it up at the Scandinavian Invitation from August 22-25.

The finest moment of Stenson’s career came when he triumphed in The 145th Open at Royal Troon three years ago to become the first male Scandinavian Major winner and he will be aiming to add his national open title to his 11 European Tour wins when he tees it up in Gothenburg this summer.

The 43-year-old, who topped the Race to Dubai in 2013 and 2016, will make his 16th appearance on home soil when he chases a victory in front of Swedish fans having finished second on two occasions in 2004 and 2005.

“I’m looking forward to playing the Scandinavian Invitation in a few weeks’ time,” said Stenson. “I spent a few of my junior years playing golf in Gothenburg and to be back playing in front of a home crowd, it’s going to be a great atmosphere.

“After a busy spring and summer, the choice was the FedEx Cup or the Scandinavian Invitation, and my decision now allows me to be in Sweden to practise and recharge my batteries looking ahead to the final part of this season.”
