SOPHIE LAMB TURNS PRO AHEAD OF INDIAN OPEN

Top ladies amateur Sophie Lamb is to turn professional ahead of teeing it up in this week’s Hero Women’s Indian Open.

The 21- year-old from Lancashire has enjoyed a hugely successful amateur career, most recently representing England at the World Amateur Golf Championships, and GB & Ireland at this summer’s Curtis Cup. Other notable amateur achievements include winning the 2016 British Ladies Strokeplay and being part of the England team that won the European Ladies Championships in 2017.

Lamb had a taste of ladies professional golf after winning the Smyth Salver at the Ricoh Women’s British Open in 2017 at Kingsbarns, where she finished as the leading amateur and went on to finish in tied 30th in the tournament. This followed with invitations to play in the Ladies European Tour’s Dubai Ladies Masters.

Lamb said: “I have been very grateful for the support England Golf has given me in my amateur career, they have set me up on a good pathway. Winning the Smyth Salver was a highlight for me, and I am looking forward to the future as a professional now.”

Lamb has signed up to leading sports player management company Wasserman, who will look after her commercial interests. She added: I’m really excited to be joining Wasserman, my family have known Brendan Taylor, the company’s head of golf, for many years, and it’s great now to be under his management team.”

Taylor added: “I used to play junior golf with Sophie’s father, so it’s exciting now to welcome Sophie into the Wasserman family,” said Wasserman’s Taylor. “She is a really talented player and showed that against the very best in the world at the Ricoh Women’s British Open in 2017. Women’s sport is a top priority at Wasserman and we are delighted to have Sophie within our European Golf Division”.

Lamb, who also signed partnerships with Senator, Bowskill Clinic, Blackburn Chemicals, Ping and Adidas ahead of her debut professional season, added: “It will be good to go to India and play against other Ladies European Tour players. It is what I want to be doing next year on a regular basis, so it’s good for me to keep gaining experience in the lead up to Q School in December, and I am very thankful for the invite from Hero.”
