Sand Martins Golf Club in Berkshire has submitted plans to build a hotel and a health club, complete with spa facilities.
The Wokingham-based club was given planning permission to build a hotel back in 1993, when the golf course first opened, but the development went no further. However, the new proposals are on a much grander scale, with a swimming pool, and an extension to the existing 200-year-old Georgian clubhouse to include a new restaurant and function site, included alongside the plans to build the new hotel and health spa.
Almost 200 new car parking spaces will be added to the site to join the other 110 bays already at the club.
A statement from the club in its planning application said: “The provision of guest accommodation, with associated function and leisure facilities, at Sand Martins Golf Club is essential to future-proofing the business and ensuring long-term access to golf as a sport.
“The local community will also be able to utilise the proposed facilities at the club, and as such, the proposed development will have benefits for the local community, not only through the retention of the existing golf club on site, but also through the additional facilities available.”
Club officials have said that the development would create up to 15 full-time jobs and 12 part-time posts.
The plans are available for public consultation up until 20 February.
