MONTY TO MAKE PGA SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP DEBUT AT LONDON CLUB

Colin Montgomerie will make his debut in the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship when the event returns to the schedule after a three-year absence at London Golf Club in Kent in August.

The 54-year-old Scot will feature in the inaugural edition of the PGA Seniors Championship under the new title sponsorship of Staysure, who also became the headline sponsors of the European Senior Tour at the start of the season.

“I am thoroughly looking forward to playing in the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, especially as I will be making my debut at the event,” said Montgomerie. “I only managed to play once on European soil last season, so to get the chance to compete several times in the UK and Europe is exciting. “There has already been a lot of hard work put in by the terrific team at London Golf Club for what will be a superb event, and I am very much looking forward to the challenge of the course and the competition,” Montgomerie said.

Montgomerie, a three-time senior major champion, will test his skills on the International Course at London Golf Club, where golf’s legends will battle it out across the four-round event.

Inaugurated in 1957, the PGA Seniors Championship has been won by the likes of Max Faulkner, Kel Nagle and Peter Thomson. More recently, the tournament has been won by Carl Mason, Tommy Horton and Sam Torrance, with the latter winning back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006, at Carden Park and Stoke-by-Nayland respectively. The tournament was last played in 2015, when Peter Fowler lifted the title at Close House in Newcastle.

The 2018 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship takes place from on August 2-5.
