THE TRAVIS PERKINS MASTERS AT WOBURN
The Travis Perkins Masters at Woburn Golf Club is one of the most popular and long-running events on the Staysure Tour – an idyllic place to experience first-hand the course where the leading senior professionals will be competing for the £57,000 first prize from August 31 – September 2.
This year is the 11thconsecutive occasion that the £380,000 tournament, sponsored by the U.K.’s largest builders merchant, has been played over the acclaimed Duke’s Course.
Among the list of champions is 2010 Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, who completed a hat-trick of successes between 2013 and 2015, and Des Smyth of Ireland and England’s Carl Mason, with two wins apiece.
England’s Philip Golding produced a stunning comeback from seven shots behind in the final round last year to win his fourth title on the Staysure Tour, and the former French Open champion from Bushey in Hertfordshire will return to defend this crown this year.
The Duke’s Course is flanked by pine, birch and chestnut trees and has a reassuring, intimate feel with each hole secluded from the others. It is pleasing on the eye but represents a fine challenge which has brought numerous men’s and women’s tournaments to the Club.
The picturesque inland location of Woburn attracts large and enthusiastic galleries to the Travis Perkins Masters, with a total of around 250,000 spectators enjoying the spectacle down the years. The ambience is enhanced by the fact that the course is ideally situated close to the clubhouse, putting green, first tee and 18thgreen, affording the crowds the opportunity to experience all that the compact Tented Village has to offer.
